| CAMPUS SUMMARY |
 |
Mount Holyoke College is a highly selective, nondenominational, residential, liberal arts college for women enrolling approximately 2,100 women from all 50 states and more than 80 countries. The College is located in South Hadley, in the Connecticut River valley of western Massachusetts—one of the most culturally and academically vibrant regions of the country.
Mount Holyoke College is part of the Five College Consortium, which also includes Amherst, Hampshire, and Smith Colleges, and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. The consortium connects students to 30,000 other students and the vast academic and social resources of four prominent colleges and a flagship research university, at no extra charge.
Founded in 1837 by chemist and revolutionary educator Mary Lyon, Mount Holyoke is the nation’s oldest institution of higher learning for women. Today, Mount Holyoke is recognized worldwide for its rigorous and innovative academic program, its global community, its legacy of women leaders, and its commitment to connecting the work of the college to the concerns of the world. |

| UNIQUE/SPECIAL PROGRAMS |

Mount Holyoke’s unusual combination of academic intensity and a noticeable friendliness work together to make an environment for learning where intellectual rigor and creativity are prized. Mount Holyoke women have an enviable record of winning major awards, scholarships, and fellowships. Supporting and guiding these achievements are Mount Holyoke’s 200 faculty members who, like our students, come from all over the world. These innovative teachers are also active scholars, scientists, and artists who are passionate about their disciplines and highly regarded by the international academic community.
Mount Holyoke is distinguished by its focus on educating women leaders. At the Weissman Center for Leadership and the Liberal Arts, students learn to make connections between ideas developed in the classroom and purposeful engagement in the world. The center’s standout programs include the Speaking, Arguing, and Writing Program and Community Based Learning.
Through the Center for Global Initiatives, Mount Holyoke brings together a diverse set of resources to help students address global issues from cross-disciplinary, cross-cultural, and cross-national perspectives. Students are encouraged to study abroad, and each year approximately 40 percent of the junior class does so.
Mount Holyoke offers 48 departmental and interdepartmental majors, including the option to design your own major. Partnering with other leading institutions, Mount Holyoke offers three dual-degree engineering opportunities, a dual-degree program in public health with the University of Massachusetts, a five-year accelerated BA/MA in Latin Studies with Georgetown University, and a variety of programs through the Twelve College Exchange. |
